At the Oral Surgery Center, we provide a wide range of cosmetic dental services, including dental implants, Botox, and more. We take pride in providing our patients with the results that they need to keep their smile looking beautiful and staying healthy. There is one particularly popular cosmetic procedure that we specialize in and most patients would never guess, which is Botox.
Botox is known for treating a number of factors, including wrinkles, excessive sweating, chronic migraines, and more. But besides its aesthetic benefits, Botox has also shown to help patients with TMJ disorders, bruxism, and facial pain. If you suffer from TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) disorders, bruxism, or facial pain, then it is in your best interest to seek help from a dentist who understands both dental and cosmetic aspects of treating the procedure.
At our office, our dentists have spent years studying facial and dental anatomy. We are very experienced in the several types of treatments that can bring relief to our patients. If you are interested in learning more about how Botox can benefit you and relieve your pain, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We are here to help provide you with the results that you need and deserve.
Botox is a common alternative treatment used for TMJ disorders as well as associated jaw pain and tension. By injecting Botox into the facial muscles, it relieves the soreness, discomfort, and tension for many TMJ patients. In addition, Botox often eliminates headaches that are a result from teeth grinding and in some cases, it can even minimize lock jaw and stress. While Botox is currently an experimental treatment, it has shown to be extremely effective for patients who suffer from these conditions.
The length of the Botox treatment can range based on the number of units/injections needed, which will be determined prior to the procedure. And still, the treatment is relatively short, considering it usually lasts between 10-30 minutes.
The pain associated with Botox injections is very minimal and brief. Some of our patients describe the injections to be similar to a minor “bug bite” or “prick.” Patients who are sensitive to pain can use a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to the procedure. However, most patients are able to tolerate the brief and minimal amount of pain that can be associated with botox.
Most patients typically feel muscle tenderness disappear almost immediately. However, when it comes to the appearance of the results, it usually takes up to a week. You may experience mild bruising, numbness or redness around the injection area, which is all temporary.
Because Botox is non-invasive and non-surgical, patients are generally able to return to their daily activities. However, it is important for patients not to spread Botox to other muscles. Therefore, they should not rub or massage the injection site and remain upright for a few hours. In addition, physical activity should remain limited for at least 24 hours.
At the Oral Surgery Center, our team understands how painful TMJ disorders, bruxism, and facial pain are. We are here to help.
